Bangladesh Protests: Bodies of 20 Awami League Leaders Found Amid Unrest
Violence Erupts Following Sheikh Hasina's Resignation, Resulting in Fatalities and Destruction

The bodies of at least 20 leaders from former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League Party were found across Bangladesh amid violent unrest. This followed Hasina’s resignation and departure from Dhaka on Monday. In Satkhira, 10 people were killed in attacks, and several Awami League leaders’ homes and businesses were vandalized and looted. Satkhira Sadar and Shyamnagar police stations also reported instances of arson and looting.
In Comilla, 11 people were killed in mob attacks. In Ashoktala, six people, including five teenagers, died after a mob set fire to the house of former councilor Md Shah Alam. The victims tried to escape to the third floor but succumbed to smoke inhalation. Ten others were injured and are receiving treatment in ICU.
In Natore-2, MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul’s house was set ablaze by a mob, resulting in four deaths. Bodies were found in various parts of the house. The attacks followed news of Hasina’s resignation. Additionally, two Jube League leaders’ bodies were found in Feni, and six bodies were recovered from the house of district AL Joint General Secretary Suman Khan in Lalmonirhat, also set on fire by a mob.
Hasina’s resignation was prompted by escalating unrest. She has since fled to India. In response, President Mohammad Shahabuddin dissolved Parliament and appointed Nobel laureate Mohammed Yunus to lead the interim government.
