Mamta Kulkarni Returns to Mumbai After 24 Years
90s Star Reflects on Emotional Homecoming After Decades Abroad
Veteran actress Mamta Kulkarni, a prominent name in the 90s, has returned to Mumbai after 24 years, expressing immense joy and emotion. She shared a selfie video on her Instagram, saying, “Hi friends, this is Mamta Kulkarni, and I’m back in India, Bombay, Mumbai, my Mumbai, after 25 years.” She spoke about her overwhelming feelings during the journey, noting how emotional she felt as her flight landed.
In the video, Mamta shared, “When I left India in 2000, I never thought it would take 24 years to return. As I looked out of the plane, I saw my country from above and got teary-eyed. Stepping out of Mumbai International Airport after so long was an emotional moment.”
Mamta did not disclose the reason for her return. Known for hits like Ram Lakhan, Waqt Hamara Hai, Krantiveer, Karan Arjun, Sabse Bada Khiladi, and Baazi, her last Bollywood movie was released in 2002. Notably, her 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Kajol, was re-released in Hindi cinemas on November 22. The movie revolves around two brothers avenging their father’s murder and returning in a reincarnation twist to complete their mission.
Mamta’s career also faced controversy. In 2016, Thane Police reportedly linked her to a ₹2,000 crore international drug racket. She was named among those accused of supplying ephedrine for the illegal production of methamphetamine. Allegations suggested her involvement in an international drug syndicate meeting in Kenya in January 2016 alongside her partner Vicky Goswami and others.
