LU Introduces Lateral Entry Admissions and One-Year PG Program under New Ordinance

"New Policy Allows Flexible Transfers, Fills Vacant Seats, and Introduces Fast-Track PG Option for Four-Year UG Graduates"

Students who missed out on admission to Lucknow University (LU) due to lower scores can soon realize their dream of studying at the university. LU has introduced a new ordinance for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) admissions, allowing for lateral entry admissions. Now, students admitted to the first year in any LU-affiliated college can transition directly to the university for their second year. However, they will need to apply to LU for this option. Governor Anandiben Patel has approved the ordinance.

Under the new ordinance, students are no longer required to complete their entire course at the same college. They may now switch institutions after completing two semesters and continue their studies either at another college or the university itself. Additionally, students from other universities and educational institutions will be eligible for lateral entry at LU, provided they are enrolled in the National Education Policy (NEP) four-year UG program. All students’ credits must be uploaded to the Academic Bank of Credits.

LU spokesperson Dr. Durgesh Srivastava explained that, each year, some UG seats remain vacant due to students either failing or dropping out. Through the new lateral entry system, these unoccupied seats can be utilized, allowing more students to join the university. A formal application process will be announced, and admissions will be granted based on merit. This will eliminate the restriction of studying at one location and make use of vacant seats to offer new students a chance to study.

Moreover, LU has approved a one-year PG course for students who have completed the four-year UG program, making LU the first institution in the country to introduce such a program. However, students completing a three-year UG course who choose the exit option will not be eligible for this one-year PG program. For students seeking entry into the seventh semester, a minimum CGPA of 7.5 up to the sixth semester will be required.
