Meta Aria Gen 2: The Future of Smart Glasses

AI-Powered Smart Glasses Revolutionizing Machine Perception and Robotics

There was a time when smartphones were in high demand. It’s not that the demand for smartphones has decreased today, but it is possible that in the coming days, smartphone demand may decline as next-generation smart glasses could replace them. Many companies are launching smart glasses nowadays, and Meta has also introduced a new next-generation glass.

Meta’s next-generation glass is called Aria Gen 2. It is claimed that Aria Gen 2 can bring revolutionary changes in machine perception for industry and academic researchers. It could significantly benefit the contextual AI and robotics sector. Meta stated in its blog post that this is the next-generation machine in the hardware sector. Aria Gen 2 glasses could open many opportunities in the research sector.

Aria Gen 2 is a research-focused headset designed to assist in AI, machine perception, and robotics. These glasses do not have a display and work on sensor-driven spatial intelligence. They feature upgraded RGB and eye-tracking cameras, as well as spatial microphone support. It is equipped with Meta’s custom silicon for real-time AI processing. This latest upgrade includes a photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor for heart rate monitoring and a contact microphone for precise voice isolation.

The foundation for smart glasses Aria was laid in 2020. Compared to the previous version, Aria Gen 2 has several improvements, including advanced sensors, enhanced processing power, and better power efficiency, meaning lower battery consumption. Built on custom silicon, it is ultra-low-power and supports SLAM, eye tracking, hand tracking, and speech recognition with on-device processing. The device offers a battery life of 6 to 8 hours and weighs 75 grams.

As the name suggests, these glasses are much smarter than regular ones. Typically, they include microphones, speakers, and various sensors, providing many of the features found in smartphones.
