Rising Concerns Over Women’s Safety in Bengal: Actress Payal Mukherjee’s Harrowing Experience
Bengali Actress Payal Mukherjee Attacked in Kolkata; Incident Highlights Growing Concerns Over Women's Safety in the State
Recent events in West Bengal have ignited serious concerns about the safety of women in the state. The disturbing incident involving a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata has already raised alarm, and now, a shocking attack on Bengali film actress Payal Mukherjee has further underscored the issue.
Payal Mukherjee recently took to social media to share a terrifying experience she had while driving through South Avenue in Kolkata. In a Facebook Live video, she recounted how a bike rider intentionally hit her car, shattered the glass, and threw some white powder inside. Clearly shaken, Payal described the entire incident in detail, expressing her fear and shock at the attack.
According to Payal, the incident occurred when she refused to roll down her car window after the bike rider asked her to do so. Enraged by her refusal, the attacker broke the car’s glass and poured the mysterious powder inside. Payal immediately reported the incident to the police, who have since apprehended the suspect.
This incident has sparked widespread concern, especially in light of recent threats against other women in the public eye. Just days before Payal’s attack, actress and Trinamool Congress leader Mimi Chakraborty, along with actress Rajanya Halder, received rape threats on social media. These incidents highlight the increasing vulnerability faced by women, even those in the public eye, and raise urgent questions about the effectiveness of current security measures.
As these cases continue to unfold, the public and authorities alike are calling for stronger protections and swift action to ensure the safety and security of women in Bengal.
