Several parts of the world are engulfed in the flames of war, and now, a new conflict seems to be brewing between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Tensions have reached a boiling point, with both nations on the brink of war. The situation escalated dramatically on Tuesday, December 24, when Pakistan’s Air Force conducted airstrikes in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktika province. The strikes claimed the lives of 46 people, most of whom were women and children. In response, the Taliban, which currently governs Afghanistan, has issued an open threat to Pakistan, vowing to avenge the attack.
Relations between Pakistan and the Taliban have been marked by frequent hostilities. Notably, Pakistan’s envoy held talks with Afghanistan’s Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani on Tuesday, but hours later, Pakistan launched the airstrikes in Barmal district. The strikes destroyed several homes and caused significant casualties. Taliban Deputy Spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat confirmed that the victims were mostly women and children, adding that Pakistan targeted four areas in the region.
Following the attack, the Taliban has issued a stern warning to Pakistan. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense condemned the strikes as barbaric, stating, “Pakistan must understand that such actions do not solve problems. The Islamic Emirate will deliver a strong response to this brutal aggression. Defending our land and sovereignty is our right, and we will surely seek retribution.”
