Honoring Heroes: Commemorative Events Pay Tribute to Kargil War Veterans

Bhubaneswar, Odisha – Odisha’s International Human Rights Council (IHRC) observed Kargil Vijay Diwas with a series of commemorative events honouring the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 Kargil War. The event was held on July 26, 2024, with Council members, veterans and the general public gathering to pay tribute to the heroes of the Kargil conflict.
The event began with a ceremony at the Council’s headquarters, where IHRC members, along with distinguished guests, gathered to pay tributes. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs and a moment of silence was observed to remember their supreme sacrifice. The atmosphere was filled with patriotism as the National Anthem was sung with gusto.
Apart from the formal ceremony, the IHRC organised a panel discussion on national security and human rights. Experts from various fields deliberated on the delicate balance between the security of the nation and maintaining human rights, a topic very relevant in today’s world.
The celebrations concluded with a cultural programme comprising patriotic songs and performances by local artists and school children. Their passionate renditions of songs like “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon” and “Vande Mataram” gave a lively and emotional touch to the event.
The celebrations organised by IHRC of Odisha on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas provided a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the armed forces and strengthened the community’s commitment to honour their legacy. The event not only recalled the past but also inspired a renewed spirit of patriotism and dedication towards building a stronger and more united nation.
