Rajasthan Govt Announces Big Change in Medical Education, Rajasthan Medical Colleges Go Bilingual: English and Hindi

Hindi to be optional language for MBBS studies in Rajasthan, starting 2024-25

In a significant move, the Rajasthan government has announced that medical colleges in the state will now offer studies in Hindi, in addition to English. This decision was made on Hindi Diwas (September 14) and is part of a broader effort to promote the use of Hindi in medical education.

The change will be implemented in a phased manner, with Jodhpur’s Sampurnanand Medical College and Barmer Medical College being the first to offer MBBS studies in Hindi from the 2024-25 academic session. Both colleges are affiliated with Marwar Medical University.

According to Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department, students will have the option to choose Hindi as their medium of study for MBBS. The state government has also allocated funds in its budget to support the inclusion of Hindi in medical education.

This move follows similar announcements by Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to start MBBS studies in Hindi, marking a significant shift towards promoting Hindi in medical education across the country.
