Samantha Ruth Prabhu Urges Telangana Government to Release Report on Sexual Harassment in Telugu Film Industry
Actress Calls for Transparency Following Justice Hema Committee's Revelations in Malayalam Film Industry
Samantha Ruth Prabhu has called on the Telangana government to release a report on sexual harassment in the Telugu film industry, following the recent outcry sparked by the Justice Hema Committee’s findings on exploitation and harassment of women in the Malayalam film industry. The revelations have prompted many female artists to come forward with their own experiences.
Samantha took to Instagram to share a note from the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), which praised the efforts behind the Justice Hema Committee’s report and urged for similar transparency in the Telugu film industry. The WCC’s continuous efforts have brought shocking truths to light in Kerala, and Samantha, alongside others, is advocating for the same in Tollywood.
In 2019, a support group called The Voice of Women was established to support women in the Telugu film industry. This group is now pressing the Telangana government to publish the findings of a sub-committee on sexual harassment within Tollywood. The demand has gained momentum in light of the Kerala report, which led to legal action against several industry figures, including director Ranjit and actors Mukesh and Jayasurya.
On a professional note, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is set to return to the screen in the web series ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny,’ directed by Raj and DK, known for ‘The Family Man.’ The series, co-starring Varun Dhawan, will stream on Amazon Prime Video starting November 7. Samantha had taken a break from acting due to her battle with myositis.
