Anil Kapoor Makes TIME’s List of Most Influential People in AI

Anil Kapoor honored for his fight against unauthorized AI use of his likeness, joins global tech leaders on TIME's prestigious list.

This is not a drill. Veteran Hindi film actor Anil Kapoor has earned a spot on TIME magazine’s annual list of the most influential people in AI. The list was unveiled on Thursday. On Friday, Kapoor shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his gratitude: “With immense gratitude and a humble heart, I find myself among the visionaries shaping the future of Artificial Intelligence. This recognition by TIME is not just an honor, but a moment of reflection on the journey of innovation and creativity.”

TIME’s profile on Kapoor highlighted his landmark legal victory in the New Delhi High Court in September, where he won a case against the unauthorized AI use of his likeness. This win was noted as a key reason for his inclusion on the list.

For some context, in September last year, the Delhi High Court banned the misuse of Anil Kapoor’s name, image, voice, and other elements of his persona, including his famous “jhakaas” catchphrase, for commercial purposes without consent.

The TIME list also features influential figures such as Sundar Pichai (Alphabet and Google CEO), Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, renowned Chinese computer scientist Andrew Yao, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, among others.

On the work front, Anil Kapoor was recently seen in Fighter alongside Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone this year. He also starred in the blockbuster Animal before that. Besides his illustrious Bollywood career, Kapoor has appeared in Hollywood productions, including the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol with Tom Cruise in 2011.
