Hundreds March Through the City Demanding Justice for the Victim of Rape and Murder at RG Kar Medical College
Kolkata. In a poignant demonstration of solidarity, the International Human Rights Council (IHRC) organized a candlelight rally on Saturday to protest the brutal rape and murder of a junior female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The rally began at Girish Park ground, which is located on MG Road, and proceeded through key areas including Central Avenue, Bowbazar, and Chandni Chowk, ultimately culminating at Hind Cinema.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage across the city, with over 300 individuals joining the march to voice their demands for justice. Prominent figures from the IHRC led the rally, including IHRC West Bengal President Sukumar Das and West Bengal Youth Vice President Sabir Ahmed Khan, who were both seen at the forefront, holding candles and banners that called for swift action against the perpetrators.
The atmosphere was charged with emotion as participants walked in silence, with only the flickering candlelight illuminating their determined faces. Many in the crowd wore black armbands as a symbol of mourning, while others carried placards that read, “Justice for the Victim” and “End Violence Against Women.”
As the rally moved through the streets, it drew the attention of passersby, some of whom joined the procession, further amplifying the call for justice. The IHRC leaders addressed the gathering at Hind Cinema, emphasizing the need for stringent laws and prompt legal action to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.
The rally served as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the rights and dignity of every individual, especially women, who continue to face violence and discrimination. The IHRC vowed to continue their fight until justice is served and appealed to the public to remain vigilant and supportive of the cause.
This candlelight vigil not only honored the memory of the young doctor but also sent a strong message to the authorities, urging them to act decisively in bringing the culprits to justice. The rally, marked by unity and resolve, highlighted the community’s unwavering demand for a safer society where such tragedies are never repeated.
