NCERT Partners with Amazon for Home Delivery of Textbooks: Major Relief for Students and Parents
"Union Education Minister Announces Threefold Increase in NCERT Book Production, Ensuring Wider Accessibility and Affordability"

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks can now be ordered online from the comfort of home. This initiative by the Ministry of Education will bring great relief to students and parents who often face issues like textbook shortages, counterfeit books, and paying more than the listed prices. Original NCERT textbooks will now be available on e-commerce platforms, following an important agreement between NCERT and Amazon Seller Services Private Limited.
At the event, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan made a significant announcement that NCERT will publish 150 million books this year, which is three times the usual 50 million published annually. He mentioned that, under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, new textbooks are being developed based on the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE), and now these will be available for home delivery. These books will be accessible at MRP (Maximum Retail Price) across nearly 20,000 pin codes in India.
The Education Minister also highlighted that NCERT has been publishing textbooks since 1963, having printed around 2.2 billion books and journals to date. The increased number of publications will ensure that no one faces any shortage, and NCERT textbooks’ prices will remain unchanged. Several state boards across the country also use NCERT books, and under the new education policy, new books are being introduced for classes from the primary level up to 12th grade. The Minister emphasized that NCERT serves as a key think tank for the nation.
Through Amazon’s network, students and schools, even in the most remote areas, will be able to purchase textbooks at the standard prices. The partnership with Amazon was hailed as a crucial step by the Education Minister, who also underscored NCERT’s responsibility to develop 21st-century textbooks. He called for the creation of AI-driven e-books with features like audiobooks to enhance the learning process for 300 million students during India’s Amrit Kaal (golden era). He further mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized the importance of creating books in Indian languages, and books are being developed in all 23 official languages. These books will represent India’s true soft power.
At the event, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, stated that textbooks account for approximately 96% of total book sales in India. Making NCERT textbooks available through e-commerce platforms like Amazon will increase accessibility for students. All grades of NCERT textbooks will be available on the Amazon NCERT storefront (http://amazon.in/ncert), which was launched on this occasion.
The textbooks will not be sold at prices higher than the printed rates. Only original NCERT textbooks will be sold on this platform, which will help curb the sale of pirated books. Amazon will also assist NCERT in monitoring and catching unauthorized sellers who distribute counterfeit or overpriced books.
The event was also attended by Prachi Pandey, Joint Secretary of the Department of Education, NCERT Director Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Amazon Vice President Saurabh Srivastava, Amazon Public Policy Director Aman Jain, and other senior officials. The officials stated that this partnership will also enable NCERT to improve the quality of its textbooks and other educational materials by leveraging customer reviews and feedback.
Moreover, anonymous sales and usage data will be shared with NCERT, which will help in making informed decisions regarding future print orders, distribution strategies, and selecting new distributors in areas where the demand for NCERT textbooks is high.
