Ram Gopal Varma Sentenced to 3 Months in Jail
"Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant in 2018 Cheque Bounce Case"

Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is currently celebrating the re-release of his iconic film Satya. Recently spotted in Mumbai, the filmmaker, known for his controversial statements, has now found himself in legal trouble. Varma has been sentenced to three months in jail following a case related to the 2018 film Shree.
The director is also reportedly facing financial difficulties, as he hasn’t made any films in recent years, and his recent works have failed to perform well at the box office. In 2022, he was released on bail after paying a cash surety of ₹5,000. However, the Mumbai Magistrate’s Court has now sentenced him to three months of imprisonment in the same cheque bounce case.
On Tuesday, January 21, Varma was summoned to the court for a hearing but failed to appear. Consequently, the court charged him under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Additionally, the court ordered him to pay ₹3.72 lakh as compensation to the complainant and issued a non-bailable warrant for his arrest.
While delivering the judgment, Magistrate Y.P. Pujari stated, “There is no question of set-off under Section 428 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, as the accused did not spend any time in custody during the trial.”
