Soham Shah’s Tumbbad made a comeback to theaters on Friday, September 13, captivating audiences once again with its unique blend of mystery and suspense. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the film has gained a cult following over the years, thanks to its intriguing storyline and masterful direction. The movie follows Vinayak Rao’s perilous journey to uncover the hidden treasure of the 20th century in the quaint Indian village of Tumbbad, Maharashtra.

In a surprising turn of events, Tumbbad has outperformed Kareena Kapoor’s The Buckingham Murders at the domestic box office. The film raked in ₹1.50 crore in India, surpassing its opening day earnings in 2018. Initially, it had earned a modest ₹65 lakh on its first day of release. By the end of its nine-week theatrical run in 2018, Tumbbad had accumulated a total of ₹15.4 crore at the box office.

According to Sacnilk, the mystery crime thriller earned ₹1.15 crore, marking the lowest opening in Kareena’s career. The Buckingham Murders garnered 9.99 percent of its total earnings in Hindi on Friday, with Chennai contributing the highest share at 56 percent. The positive word of mouth is expected to boost the collection over the weekend.

The filmmakers have announced a sequel, following the re-release of Tumbbad on Friday. The announcement was made at the end of the film, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next installment.
