India Launches Helpline 1930 to Combat Cyber Fraud and Secure Digital Transactions

"A Unified Effort by the Indian Government, Banks, and Digital Platforms to Aid Citizens in Reporting and Recovering Financial Losses from Cyber Fraud"

The Government of India has officially launched the national helpline 155260, which has now been updated to the four-digit number 1930. This number assists users in reporting financial losses caused by cyber fraud. Initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), this measure strengthens the government’s commitment to providing a secure digital payment system for Indian citizens. The helpline and platform are part of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

Victims of cyber fraud can call this helpline, which is managed by state police departments. The police gather transaction details and submit them as a ticket into the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System. The complaint is then forwarded to the concerned bank, wallet, or merchant to freeze the defrauded amount before it reaches fraudsters. If the funds have already been transferred to another bank, the process continues until recovery.

This helpline has been developed in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all major public and private sector banks, and popular online wallets and merchants, including Paytm, PhonePe, Flipkart, and Amazon. Currently, the service is operational across multiple states and union territories.

As digital fraud grows, the Ministry of Home Affairs and I4C are closely monitoring these scams, emphasizing the need to raise public awareness and strengthen cybersecurity measures for citizen safety. This helpline offers an essential solution, especially for those who have experienced cyber attacks, to take prompt action and seek assistance.
